BYU, KU, TCU and Texas Share Weekly Big 12 S&D Awards

BYU’s Jordan Tiffany (swimmer), TCU’s Oliver Cazaly (diver) and Texas’ Will Scholtz (newcomer) took home the men’s Big 12 Swimming and Diving weekly awards while Kansas’ Shiyun Lai (diver) and Texas’ duo of Emma Sticklen (swimmer) and Berit Berglund (newcomer) garnered the women’s awards.
 
Tiffany tallied multiple school records for the Cougars at the Mizzou Invitational. The junior led off in the 200 medley relay with a 21.20 in the 50 back as well as leading off in the 400 medley relay with a time of 45.24 in the 100 back. He also broke his own school record in the 100 fly twice in the same day as he cut 0.45 seconds off his preliminary time in the finals with a time of 44.85. It is the human resources major’s first Big 12 Men’s Swimmer of the Week award and third Conference honor this season.
 
Sticklen helped the Longhorns A-relay to the fourth-fastest time in program history and an A-standard time of 1:34.14 in the 200 medley relay. She was also a part of the 400 medley relay that later swam the second-fastest time in school history in 3:25.25. The exercise science major added a B-cut time of  1:54.94 in the 200 IM and two winning A-cut times in the 100 and 200 fly (50.36 and 1:50.31). It is Sticklen’s second weekly Conference award this season and fifth of her career.
 
Cazaly earned his second career Big 12 award after taking gold in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at the Mizzou Invitational. The sophomore scored 364.05 in the 3-meter followed by 330.85 in the 1-meter. He also recorded a 254.90 performance on platform to finish fourth.
 
Lai garnered her second consecutive Conference award after winning three of the four diving stages at the Mizzou Invitational. The freshman from Guangdong Province, China swept both the prelims and the finals in the 3-meter dive with scores of 326.90 and 317.25 as well as a score of 297.60 in the 1-meter to lead all divers in the prelims. She finished fourth with a score of 279.55 in the 1-meter finals to conclude her meet.
 
Scholtz finished with two NCAA B-cut times in the 100 breast (52.47) and 200 breast (1:54.35) to collect third and fifth-place finishes, respectively, at the Texas Invitational. The freshman also swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay that finished with a winning time of 1:24.22. It is the first award of his career.

Berglund picked up two first-place finishes for the Longhorns in the 100 back and the 400 medley relay. In the 100 back, the freshman clocked the seventh-fastest time in program history (50.85) while she swam the lead off leg of the 400 medley to help Texas record the second-fastest time in school history (3:25.25). She also added a fourth-place result in the 200 back (1:52.92). It is the freshman’s second weekly Conference award.
