OSU Wins Third-Straight Big 12 Equestrian Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. — Top-seeded Oklahoma State made it three-straight Big 12 Equestrian Championship titles and nine total with a 12-8 win over No. 2-seeded TCU. Baylor defeated Fresno State 16-4 in the consolation bracket for third-place.

TCU secured two MOP honors as Wynne Weatherly earned the distinction in Flat and Mattie Dukes nabbed it in Horsemanship. Baylor and Oklahoma State each collected one MOP with Dominika Silvestri (BU) and JoJo Roberson (OSU) winning them in Fences and Reining, respectively.
The Big 12 individual yearly awards were announced at the end of the championship with TCU winning four of the five. Isabella Baxter (Fences), Jessica McAllister (Horsemanship) and Dukes (Reining) took home three of the rider awards while Haley Schoolfield was tabbed with Coach of the Year for the Horned Frogs. Silvestri completed the yearly awards by garnering Flat Rider of the Year.

Baxter was joined by teammates Ashleigh Scully and Sydney Berube as well OSU’s Riley Hogan and Sydney North on the Fences All-Big 12 squad. Silvestri spearheaded a group of Bears that included Madison Mitchell, Maddie Vorhies and Annie Vorhies on the Flat All-Big 12 squad. TCU’s Scully and Weatherly along with FSU’s Sara Tuck rounded out the Flat All-Big 12 riders. McAllister, Giorgia Medows (TCU), Dukes (TCU), Roberson (OSU) and Claire McDowall (OSU) made up the Horsemanship all-conference team. The Reining All-Big 12 team consisted of TCU’s Dukes, McAllister and Medows, along with Baylor’s Jenna Meimerstorf and Madaline Callaway.

Big 12 Championship: No. 1 Oklahoma State 12, No. 2 TCU 8

The meet started with the Fences discipline and saw the Cowgirls jump out to an early 4-1 lead. Sydney North accumulated the first point, winning 265-213 against Jordyn Scelsa. Sydnie Ziegler and Grace McReynolds picked up two more points with wins over Ella Bostwick (257-249) and Isabella Baxter (250-247) before Emma Pacyna extended the lead to 4-0 with a 255-238 victory over Sydney Berube. Ashleigh Scully then put TCU on the board with a 247-238 victory over Riley Hogan.

TCU flipped the script in the next discipline as it won Horsemanship 4-1, to tie it up at the midway point. Medows, Dukes and Graham scored three consecutive points over Maddie Fussell (226-224), JoJo Roberson (226-224.5) and June Roberson (220.5-219) to even it up. Claire McDowall then collected the lone Cowgirl point in the discipline, defeating Payton Boutelle 218-215, before TCU’s McAllister got the better of Natalie Vargo 220.5-217.5.

Oklahoma State responded with another 4-1 discipline win, this time in Flat. Ella Reinauer outscored Berube 241-235, Hope King bested Scully 237-220 and Hogan outrode Laurel Smith 205-200 before TCU’s Weatherly picked up a 249-245 victory against McReynolds. OSU’s Elizabeth Carter then finished out Flat defeating Sydnie Young 254-217.

In the last discipline of the day, OSU clinched the meet winning three of the five Reining points. The teams traded blows as Roberson (OSU) defeated Shea Graham (TCU) 209.5-0 and Dukes (TCU) outscored Molly Mitchell 208.5-203.5. The Cowgirls then clinched the title as Clark and Lovrien tallied two more points over Lannie-Jo Lisac and Medows. McAllister concluded the match with a 214.5-204 win over Tristan Bagby.

Big 12 Consolation Round: No. 4 Baylor 16, No. 3 Fresno State 4

The Bears opened the day with a 4-1 win in Flat with points scored by Lauren Reid, Dominika Silvestri and Madison Mitchell. Sara Tuck put Fresno State on the scoresheet with a 240-223 win over Molly Canfield. Maddie Vorhies finished the discipline with a 237-222 showing over Killian Spencer.

Madaline Callaway, Jenna Meimerstorf and Daisy Kaufman extended the lead for the Bears with wins over Shelby Robinette (213-210), Julianne Kelley (219.5-218.5) and Sarah Semrau (208-201.5). Ashley Jackson and Brogan Hill scored the two points for Fresno State as the team defeated Andie Pratt 208-205 and Shelby Clausen 208.5-204.

In Fences, Baylor added to its lead with a 4-1 discipline win. Lauren Jorgensen outrode Autumn Bradbury 233-197 while Lauren Reid outscored Taylor Holstead 229-108. Dominika Silvestri tallied a 261-228 win against Sara Tuck before Madison Mitchell scored the final point with a 235-205 performance against Elle Martin. Ana Bertozzi scored the lone point for the Bulldogs with a score of 250-239.

The Bears ended the meet with a sweep in Horsemanship to clinch the consolation match. Nadalee Vasquez, Alexis Rutledge, Gabrielle Marty, Marley Mainwaring and Elsie Naruszewicz all collected points for the Bears to end the match with a score of 16-4.
