Baylor, Fresno State and TCU shared the Big 12 equestrian honors for the month of March to conclude the 2022-2023 season. BU’s Dominika Silvestri and FSU’s Ana Bertozzi were named Co-Riders of the Month in Fences while TCU’s Wynne Weatherly (flat), Mattie Dukes (horsemanship) and Jessica McAllister (reining) took home the remaining three awards.
Silvestri collected her fourth career honor with a 3-1 fences record in March. The senior ended the regular season with a 6-5-1 record in the discipline before adding two additional wins at the Big 12 Championship. The Andover, Massachusetts native earned her third and fourth Fences MOP of the season in the regular season finale at No. 3 TCU and at the Big 12 Championship against No. 5 Oklahoma State/No. 8 Fresno State. She produced her two highest fences scores of the season at the Championship (87, 86.67) to help her average 84.67 on the month.
Bertozzi finished the month of March with an unblemished 3-0 fences record and a win against all three Conference opponents. She helped Fresno State defeat its first top-five-ranked team since last season with an 81-79 victory in fences against No. 5 Oklahoma State. The senior was the only Bulldog to win both fences’ points at the Big 12 Championship and led the team with the highest score in the consolation round. It is the senior’s third award this season and the fourth of her career.
Weatherly concluded the month with three straight flat wins and earned MOP honors in both the regular season finale and Big 12 Championship, bringing her total to five on the year. The graduate student recorded the highest flat score in both of the Horned Frogs’ Big 12 Championship meets which included a 245-220 victory over FSU’s All American, Bertozzi. She has won six of her last seven starts dating back to Feb. 11 and will enter the NCEA Championships with a 10-5 season record in flat. It is the first career honor for the Charlotte, North Carolina native.
Dukes ended the regular season tied for the team-high with 12 horsemanship wins including two in the month of March. She procured Horsemanship MOP Honors at the Big 12 Championship and was selected on the All-Big 12 team after finishing as the highest scorer at the meet. The senior also became the third athlete in program history to earn four All-American selections. This is her second monthly award this season and the third of her career.
McAllister became the second in program history to be named a first team All-American by the NCEA in both Reining and Horsemanship in the same season. The junior finished the month 3-0 to improve to 11-2-2 on the season en route to being named Big 12 Reigning Rider of the Year. She achieved a career-high score of 76 along with MOP honors in TCU’s regular-season finale win over then-No. 8 Baylor. This is the second monthly award of this season for the Southbury, Connecticut native and the fourth of her career.
