BYU, UC, UH & WVU Share Weekly Big 12 Swimming and Diving Accolades

BYU’s Brad Prolo (co-swimmer) and Tanner Edwards (newcomer), Cincinnati’s Will Claus (diver), and West Virginia’s Danny Berlitz (co-swimmer) garnered the men’s Big 12 Swimming and Diving weekly awards for the 11th week of the season. Joleigh Crye (swimmer) and Julie Rose (newcomer) added two more awards for the Bearcats while Houston’s Chase Farris (diver) rounded out the women’s awards.

Prolo accumulated four wins at the Denver Tri-Meet against Denver and Wyoming. The information systems major secured individual wins in the 200 fly (1:47.05) and 100 breast (53.75) while helping the Cougars’ 200 medley relay (1:27.05) and 400 medley relay (3:13.38) to victories. All four performances broke El Pomar Natatorium pool records including his time of 53.75 in the 100 breast that broke a record set in 2006. It is his first Big 12 accolade of the season.

Berlitz led the Mountaineers with three individual victories against Pittsburgh. The integrated studies major won the 200 free (1:37.53), 200 breast (1:59.58) and 200 IM (1:48.09) while also leading the 200 free relay to a victory by 0.01 seconds with a split of 20.27. It is the senior’s second Conference award this season.

Crye finished with two individual wins against Miami (Ohio) and added a top-place finish and second-place result in relays. The marketing major won the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.65 and the 100 fly in 54.61 seconds. She wound up her meet with a 23.12 split in the 200 free relay (first) and a 1:00.85 split in the 400 medley relay. It is the sophomore’s first Big 12 award of her career.

Claus earned his second Big 12 Men’s Diver of the Week this season as he swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against Miami (Ohio). He scored 312.45 points on the 1-meter dive and 325.5 on the 3-meter dive.

Farris claimed two podium finishes competing against No. 11 Texas A&M. The fifth-year diver recorded 275.78 points on the 1-meter to finish runner-up and 316.50 points on the 3-meter for third place. It is her second Conference award this season.

Edwards helped the Cougars sweep the four men’s relay events at the Denver Tri-Meet including the 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. BYU broke the El Pomar Natatorium pool records in both of the 200 and 400 medley relays with times of 1:27.05 and 3:13.38, respectively. The freshman added a first-place finish in the 100 fly (47.27) and a runner-up result in the 50 free (20.47).

Rose added her first Big 12 award of her career after a win in the 200 breast (2:18.55) and two additional runner-up finishes. The freshman clocked a time of 1:50.49 in the 200 free and a time of 2:02.82 in the 200 IM.
