Cincinnati collected three Conference weekly awards as Hunter Gubeno (men’s swimmer), Owen Chiles (men’s newcomer) and Joleigh Crye (women’s swimmer) earned recognition. BYU’s duo of Chase Hindmarsh (men’s diver) and Haylee Tiffany (women’s newcomer) snagged another two awards while TCU’s Anna Kwong (women’s diver) finished the group.
Gubeno procured his second consecutive Big 12 Men’s Swimmer of the Week and third of his career. The Howell, Michigan native collected individual wins against Northwestern in the 100 back (46.87), 200 back (1:41.11) and 200 IM (1:46.82). His effort in the 100 back was the 14
th fastest time in the country this season while he slotted in with the 12
th fastest recording in the 200 IM.
Crye followed suit and is the second Bearcat to obtain back-to-back Conference weekly awards this season with her third honor of her career. The Avon, New York native concluded her weekend with two individual event titles (100 breast, 100 fly) and another win in the 200 free relay (1:31.78). She clocked a time of 59.38 in the 100 breast and 53.53 in the 100 fly along with a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay (3:37.75).
Hindmarsh recorded a runner-up finish in the platform event against then-No. 12 Texas A&M and TCU. The senior concluded with a score of 318.25 points to earn his first career weekly Conference award.
Kwong opened her season with a win in the 1-meter dive (301.10) as she was the lone female diver to break the 300-point mark. The senior scored zone cuts on both the 1-meter and platform dives (237.6) and added a score of 262.35 in the 3-meter. It is her seventh Conference weekly award of her career and first this season.
Chiles ended his week with four top-three finishes including three runner-up results. The freshman recorded the sixth-fastest time in Bearcat program history in the 100 back (48.08) and helped the Bearcats’ 400 medley relay swim the ninth-fastest time in program history (3:14.49). It is his first career weekly Conference award.
Tiffany highlighted her weekend against No. 16 Texas A&M by taking the event title in the 200 free. The freshman clocked a time of 1:51.57 and picked up the bronze medal in the 400 free relay as the anchor leg (3:28.66; 51.61). She is the second Cougar in program history to be named Big 12 Women’s Newcomer of the Week after earning her first career Conference weekly accolade.
