The 2024 Big 12 Men’s Golf Match Play Tournament, held Oct. 7-9, begins with Pool Play Monday at Houston Oaks Country Club and Retreat in Hockley, Texas.
The three-day event features three rounds of pool play before advancing to bracket play and the championship round. A total of five sessions of match play will be contested on the par 71, 7,007-yard track with 15 of the 16 Big 12 institutions sponsoring men’s golf participating. Arizona had a preexisting scheduling conflict and will not participate in 2024.
The format includes three rounds of Pool Play with three four-team pools and one three-team pool. Teams were ranked and seeded by the Big 12 Coaches.
All individual matches within the team match will produce a result (3&2, 1 up, halved) and will not be played beyond the 18th hole. An individual match win awards that team with one point. An individual match that remains tied after 18 holes awards each team with a half point. Once all individual matches are completed within a team match, the team with the greater point total will receive three points while the losing team receives zero points. If the match is tied at the end of all five individual matches, both teams receive one point.
Upon the conclusion of pool play, the top-ranked teams from each pool will face off in the Thursday afternoon semifinals, with the championship match taking place Wednesday morning. Teams who do not win their pool will have consolation matches to complete the event.
