WACO, Texas – No. 2-seeded Oklahoma State defeated top-seeded TCU 10-9 for its fourth consecutive Big 12 Equestrian Championship title and 10
th in program history. It was the fourth straight time the two teams have met in the Championship final. Baylor defeated Fresno State 14-6 to take the consolation match.
TCU swept the Big 12 individual awards. Ashleigh Scully (fences), Lilly Goldstein (flat), Mattie Dukes (horsemanship) and Shea Graham (reining) garnered the Rider of the Year awards while head coach Haley Schoolfield was named the Coach of the Year.
For the Fences All-Big 12 team, Scully was joined by teammate Ella Bostwick, Baylor’s Lauren Reid, Fresno State’s Olivia Ferro, and Oklahoma State’s pair of Riley Hogan and Grace McReynolds. Goldstein and Bostwick represented TCU on the Flat All-Big 12 squad accompanied by Madi Mitchell (BU), Sara Tuck (FS) and Hogan (OSU). Dukes spearheaded four Horned Frogs on the Horsemanship All-Big 12 squad as Graham, Giorgia Medows and Jessica McAllister took four of the five selections. Oklahoma State’s Claire McDowall rounded out the discipline. In reining, Graham along with Kaylene Cunningham and Giorgia Medows took three of the six spots. Fresno State’s Shelby Robinette and Oklahoma State’s pair of Tristan Bagby and Emma Filiatreau completed the reining squad.
Big 12 Championship: No. 2 Oklahoma State 10, No. 1 TCU 9
The Championship final came down to the last rider after each team swept an event. TCU jumped out to an early lead as McAllister (70.83), Medows (71.33) and Graham (71.50) grabbed wins over Bagby, Quincee Clark and Filiatreau. Oklahoma State trimmed the deficit to 3-2 as Ava Bush (70.67) and Abby Budd (70.50) scored points against Cunningham and Dukes.
Oklahoma State responded with a five-point fences event. Paige Jones (81.33), Bella Holway (82), McReynolds (82.67), Hogan (87.33) and Sydney North (87) tallied points to give the Cowgirls a 7-3 lead over the Horned Frogs.
TCU fought back with six straight, including five in horsemanship. McAllister (74.83), Payton Boutelle (76.17), Medows (75.17), Graham (76.5) and Dukes (73.67) gave TCU an 8-7 lead headed into the final discipline of the Championship.
Scully extended the lead for the Horned Frogs to 9-7 with an 84.33-83.67 flat victory over Hannah Dodd. OSU’s North cut it back to one with a win over TCU’s Sydney Berube. McReynolds (OSU) and Bostwick (TCU) tied at 82.67 to keep the score at 9-8. Hogan (82.33) and Ella Reinauer (88.33) completed the comeback for the Cowgirls with wins over Goldstein and Laurel Smith.
Hogan (fences) and North (flat) earned MOP honors for Oklahoma State while Boutelle (horsemanship) and Graham (reining) earned the recognition for TCU.
Big 12 Consolation Round: No. 4 Baylor 14, No. 3 Fresno State 6
The day started with reining and flat simultaneously. In the reining event, Baylor took four of five points as Emily Moomaw prevailed over Ashley Jackson (70.83-67.5), Sadie Peters defeated Brogan Hill (69.5-62.83), Riley Cachat edged out Alana Becker (70.17-69.83) and Kalena Reynolds bested Robinette. Julianne Kelley completed the discipline with a 71.5-68.33 victory for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State took the flat event starting with Tuck’s opening 74-point performance against Lauren Jorgensen. Dominika Silvestri took the next point for the Bears, defeating Autumn Bradbury 83-73. Elle Martin and Molly Stewart took two of the last three points for the Bulldogs as they defeated Maddie Vorhies and Mitchell, respectively. Reid garnered the second point for Baylor in the discipline over Taylor Holstead.
The Bears scored four more in the horsemanship event starting with Elsie Naruszewicz. Naruszewicz scored one more point than Fresno State’s Kendra Lee to begin the discipline. Before Gia Pozzi slid by Abby Goddard 72.33-72. The Bulldogs’ Alex Krebs tallied the lone point for Fresno State, besting Nadalee Vasquez (75.67-71). Alexis Rutledge and Bella Rose secured the last two points for Baylor with victories against Ella Storch and Emily Maul.
The fences event brought the Championship consolation round to a close. Baylor’s Vorhies, Mitchell, Jorgensen and Silvestri grabbed another four points to end the match 14-6.
