TCU’s 2023-24 Big 12 Athlete of the Year Nominees

The 2023-24 Big 12 Athlete of the Year nominees will be featured in alphabetical order by school starting Monday, June 17 through Tuesday, June 25 at 10 a.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT.
 
Each institution nominated one male and one female athlete of any classification that competed for their institution during the 2023-24 school year. Student-athletes were required to be in good academic standing and had to be from a league-sponsored sport.
 
The 14 schools that competed during the 2023-24 academic year are eligible.
 
The winners will be announced Wednesday, June 26. Stay tuned to Big12Sports.com and the league’s social media platforms to see the rest of the candidates.
 
This morning’s featured candidates are TCU’s Jack Pinnington and Mattie Dukes. 
 
TCU Male Athlete of the Year Candidate
Jack Pinnington, Tennis

Accomplishments
  • Led TCU to its first men’s tennis NCAA Championship and the Horned Frogs’ first end-of-season ITA No. 1 team ranking. Produced a 35-8 combined overall singles record and a 28-8 mark vs. ranked opponents.
  • An ITA singles All-American and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Championship.
  • Selected as a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team singles honoree and garnered All-Tournament honors at the NCAA Championship (No. 1 singles, No. 2 doubles) and the ITA Indoor National Championship (No. 2 singles).
  • Participated in TCU’s student-athlete readings at the Miller Language Academy.

Mattie Dukes, Equestrian
Gr., Weatherford, Texas
Accomplishments
  • Named the Big 12 Rider of the Year (Horsemanship), an All-Big 12 Conference Rider (Horsemanship) and an NCEA First Team All-American (Horsemanship).
  • Helped lead TCU to the No. 1 overall seed at the NCEA Championship and a national runner-up finish.
  • Owned a 12-meet winning streak in horsemanship.
  • Selected to the NCEA All-Academic First Team, her fourth-straight season earning NCEA All-Academic honors.
