ARIZ’s Netz and TTU’s Allred Bestowed Big 12 Softball Honors

Arizona’s Devyn Netz (pitcher) and Texas Tech’s Lauren Allred (player) were honored as the Big 12 Softball Players of the Week for their play in Week Three games through February 23.

Netz made three appearances in the circle while picking up two wins against then-No. 20 Stanford. She recorded a complete game during the first outing against the Cardinal where she tallied seven strikeouts as the Wildcats claimed a 4-1 victory before she held No. 1 Texas to three hits and an earned run in 5.1 innings. In the final matchup against Stanford, she recorded five strikeouts in three scoreless innings. In 15.1 innings, the redshirt senior had a 0.91 earned run average while possessing a 0.65 WHIP during the week. The Sierra Madre, California native also helped Arizona run rule Stanford 10-2 as she hit two home runs and recorded four RBIs. This is her first career Big 12 award.

Allred led the league in total bases with 23 as she posted the second-best slugging percentage of 1.278 from all Big 12 players during Week Three. In 18 plate appearances throughout six games, she garnered nine hits, which included three home runs and a triple. During the Red Raiders’ 20-0 victory against Detroit Mercy, the Louisiana-Lafayette transfer recorded 11 total bases as she hit two home runs and a triple while driving in four runs. Coming off a season-ending injury a season ago, Allred leads TTU in batting average (.425) in 17 games. This is her first Big 12 weekly award.
