Fresno State and TCU Collect January Big 12 Equestrian Awards

Fresno State’s Olivia Ferro (fences), Yasmin Roman (flat) and Alana Becker (reining) along with TCU’s Payton Boutelle (horsemanship) were named the Big 12 Equestrian Riders of the Month for January.

Ferro earned MOP honors in both of the Bulldogs’ meets as she finished 2-0 in fences. She scored over 80 in both rides including a 34-point victory over her opponent against Minnesota Crookston. The 84-50 win was part of a 10-0 sweep in the jumping seat events against the Golden Eagles. The senior added an 80-73 victory against Delaware State enroute to a 16-4 team win over the Hornets.

Roman recorded a score of 80 in the flat against Minnesota Crookston to earn MOP, her second of the season.  The score helped Fresno State defeat Minnesota Crookston 18-2. The senior added a 78-67 victory against Delaware State in the Bulldogs’ 16-4 win to finish with an average win margin of 11.5.

Boutelle led the Horned Frogs to a 16-4 win over South Dakota State with an individual victory in horsemanship. The graduate student finished with a meet-leading score of 76 to earn MOP honors as TCU won the discipline 4-1. With the win, TCU improved to 6-3 on the season and 3-0 in Conference meets. They’ll travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on the Cowgirls next.

Becker completed the monthly awards with a 2-0 record in reining.  The sophomore finished with a season-high score of 72 against Minnesota Crookston to earn MOP honors in the discipline. After scoring 71.5 in her win against Delaware State, she finished with an average win margin of 2.25 for the month.

Ferro and Becker were also both named NCEA Arion Sellier Riders of the Month for January.
