ISU Sweeps Big 12 SB Week 10 Honors

Iowa State’s Sydney Malott (player) and Lauren Schurman (pitcher) earned the Big 12 softball weekly awards for Week 10. This marks the third time in program history that the Cyclones have claimed both weekly Conference awards and is the first time since the 2017 season.

Malott tallied five hits in 13 plate appearances against Kansas City and then-No. 17/18 Oklahoma State. The junior recorded her first multi-homer game as she hit two that helped ISU win 5-4 in extra innings over the Cowgirls. In the two remaining games at OSU, she hit a home run in each matchup to mark a three-game streak with at least one homer. The transfer from Illinois garnered six RBI while she led the Cyclones with 18 total bases and had a 1.385 slugging percentage. Malott is the first Cyclone to earn Player of the Week honors since Sami Williams claimed the honor twice in 2021.

Schurman was in the circle against Kansas City and pitched in both of ISU’s wins over OSU. The right-handed pitcher held the Roos and the Cowgirls to one earned run and only allowed nine hits while she procured a 0.72 ERA in her 9.2 innings pitched last week. The sophomore from Newark, Delaware helped the Cyclones claim their first road series over a ranked opponent in school history and surpassed the program’s most wins during Conference play (9). Schurman is the first pitcher from the ISU program to earn the Big 12’s weekly pitcher award since the 2022 season.
