IRVING, Texas – After picking up a pair of victories over top-10 opponents at 184 pounds, Northern Iowa’s Nick Fox was selected as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week. The redshirt sophomore has now won seven consecutive matches after missing the first two months of the season due to injury.
Fox defeated former Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honoree, No. 8 Zack Ryder from Oklahoma State, in a 3-1 sudden victory after scoring the winning reversal in a tied match with 11 seconds remaining in overtime from the bottom position. He later jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a takedown against No. 10 Brian Soldano before an injury default by Oklahoma’s 184 pounder.
Fox and his Northern Iowa teammates return to action with a Big 12 match at No. 15 South Dakota State on Sunday, February 8. The Panthers will take to the mat for a quartet of matches in February before the Big 12 Wrestling Championships presented by Allstate begin on Friday, March 6 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
