April 21, 2003

DALLAS - Raasin McIntosh of Texas and Kevin Bookout of Oklahoma were named Big 12 Outdoor track and field male and female athletes of the week for their performances April 14-20, the conference announced on Monday.

McIntosh, a Houston, Texas, junior, helped her team win the Longhorn Invitational last Saturday by winning the 100-meter hurdles clocking in at 13.12 which gives her a personal best time and a regional qualifying time. This time currently ranks her in the Top 10 on the NCAA list in the event and second in the Big 12 and the Midwest Region right behind her teammate Nichole Denby. McIntosh also currently leads the NCAA list in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.60, the third-fastest collegiate time ever recorded.

Freshman Bookout of Oklahoma won the shot put event at the Michael Johnson Classic last Saturday in Waco, Texas. The Oklahoma native is now unbeaten in the shot put this season and overall in his career going back to his high school days. This is the third meet that Bookout has competed in and the third victory in a row he has brought to Oklahoma. Bookout threw 58-3.75 to give him a third consecutive NCAA regional qualifying mark and puts him fifth in the Oklahoma history book. Bookout also competed in the discus and finished eighth with a mark of 156-6.

Up next for the Longhorns and the Sooners are the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
