Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced

March 29, 2004

DALLAS - Texas Tech's Shereefa Lloyd, Texas A&M's Melissa Gulli and Fabrice Lapierre were named co-female and male Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of March 22-28, the conference announced on Monday.

Lloyd turned in four first place finishes last weekend at the UTEP Invitational in El Paso, Texas. The junior set regional qualifying marks in the 100-and 200-meter dash with times of 11.64 and 23.43 seconds, which currently places her second in the conference and first in the nation for the 200-meter dash. The Clarendon, Jamaica, native also assisted the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to first place finishes. The relay squads clocked in at 46.82 (4x100) and 3:38.03 (4x400) to give themselves a first place rank in the nation for the 4x400 event.

Gulli, a six-time all-American, from Spring, Texas, ran her first ever 10k and broke the Texas A&M record, clocking in at 33:03.29. The senior broke the school mark by a whole minute, placing her ahead of Stacey Ware, who broke the record in 1993. Currently Gulli leads the nation and the league in the event.

Lapierre took first in the long jump with a leap of 26-0 3/4 and second in the triple jump with a 48-10 3/4 mark at the UTEP Invitational last weekend. The sophomore from Sydney, Australia, earned a regional qualifying mark in the long jump along with a first place ranking in the nation and the Big 12 and is also the top performer in the triple jump for the league.

The Red Raiders and the Aggies will travel to Austin, Texas, for the 77th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which starts on Wednesday and ends on Saturday.
