Nebraska, Texas Men Share Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Title; Texas A&M Women Earn First Crown

AMES, Iowa - Nebraska and Texas men's teams shared the 2007 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships in the final day of competition, while the Texas A&M women won their first Indoor Big 12 Title at the Lied Recreation Athletic Facility in Ames, Iowa. Nebraska claimed its ninth title, while Texas earned its third. Both men's team's finished with 93 points and the Aggie women earned 141, respectively.

Two-time individual high point award winner for the men was Reggie Witherspoon of Baylor with 20 points. Reggie won conference titles in the 200-meter dash (20.73) and 400-meter dash (45.91). His 200-meter time was an NCAA provisional qualifying time, while his 400-meter was an automatic time.

For the women, Sally Kipyego (Texas Tech) was honored as the high point winner with 22.5 and won three Big 12 titles, including the mile (4:38.18), 3,000 meter (9:11.41) and the distance medley relay (11:18.07). She automatically qualified for the NCAA's in the mile and the 3,000 meter run. Her 3,000 meter time also set a stadium record.

For the men, defending Big 12 Heptathlon Champion Donovan Kilmartin (Texas) earned his third title with a score of 5,870 points. In the 60-meter hurdles, Marlon Odem of Texas Tech won the title with a provisional qualifying time of 7.77. Oklahoma's Marcus Pugh claimed the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.68, while defending Big 12 Champion Leonel Manzano (Texas) finished first in the mile run with his 3:58.78, setting a Big 12 Indoor Meet record and an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA's. Tevan Everett (Kansas State) won the 600-yard run title in a time of 1:08.56.

Anthony Chiulli of Colorado earned the conference title in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:21.82, while Jacob Hernandez (Texas) placed first in the 800-meter run (1:50.26). Also in the men's individual competition was defending conference champion Brent Vaughn (Colorado) in the 5000-meter run with a time of 13:48.74. His time serves as the Big 12 meet record.

In the men's field events, Kevin Bookout (Oklahoma) claimed the Big 12 title in the shot put with a throw of 18.89 meters, while Zuheir Sharif (Texas A&M) won his first Big 12 title in the triple jump with a distance of 15.88 meters. Andra Manson (Texas) earned his fourth consecutive title in the high jump with a leap of 2.30 meters (NCAA automatic qualifying jump). Jordan Scott of Kansas won the pole vault with a height of 5.32 meters.

Alexandria Anderson (Texas) won the women's 60-meter dash for with a time of 7.25, an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Morgan Bonds of Kansas State claimed the title in the 600-yard run (1:20.05), while Clora Williams of Texas A&M won her second 400-meter dash title with 53.57. In the 1000-meter run, freshman Nicole Jones of Baylor set a Big 12 meet record with a time of 2:45.68 and Trisa Nickoley (Missouri) earned the title in the 800-meter run (2:08.46).

In the field events, Yasmine Regis (Texas A&M) earned her second Big 12 title in the triple jump with a distance of 13.27 meters and Texas' Michelle Carter threw an NCAA automatic distance of 17.79 in the shot put. Destinee Hooker (Texas) earned an automatic qualifying jump with her 1.86 meter leap in the high jump.
