OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Top-seeded Texas A&M defeated No. 4 Texas, 3-1, to advance to its first title match since 2000. The Aggies will face the No. 10 seed Nebraska at noon Sunday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
The Aggies plated the game's first runs in the third inning, breaking a scoreless tie when first baseman Rhiannon Kliesing launched a two-run homer to right centerfield and gave A&M a 2-0 edge.
Texas cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth, using a pinch-hit double to right centerfield by freshman Shelby Savony to score sophomore leftfielder Kori Cook who reached on a fielder's choice.
Texas A&M moved its edge back to two in the sixth when third baseman Jamie Hinshaw led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on sacrifice. An RBI single by catcher Erin Glasco brought Hinshaw home and moved the A&M lead to 3-1.
In 2000, the Aggies also faced Nebraska in the championship title game. This year's title match will mark the first time in conference history that a 10 seed has made it to Sunday's game and the first time since 2004 that the top seed has advanced to the finals. Sunday's game will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
