Sheets Collects First Weekly Wrestling Award

Oklahoma State’s Wyatt Sheets has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for week 13. This is the first Conference honor of the season for the Cowboys.

Sheets picked up a pair of wins in Oklahoma State’s home bouts against South Dakota State and Missouri. The first came when Sheets earned his fifth major decision of the season with an 11-3 victory over SDSU’s Peyton Smith. His final win of the weekend came when unranked Sheets topped the 11th-ranked 157-pound wrestler in the country 8-6. Sheets downed Missouri’s Jarrett Jacques in the first tiebreaker of the match. Down three late in the third period, Sheets escaped, notched a takedown and rode out the frame to erase the Tiger’s riding time and send the dual into overtime. After a scoreless sudden victory, Jacques scored an escape, before Sheets countered with an escape of his own followed by a takedown to secure the win. It marked Sheets’ second ranked win of the season and first over a top-15 competitor.
