Oklahoma State’s Chelsea Alexander is the Big 12 Softball Player of the Week and Carrie Eberle the Pitcher of the Week after the Cowgirls swept No. 7 Texas in Austin last weekend to remain the last team left to challenge Oklahoma for the regular season Big 12 crown heading into this final Bedlam weekend.

This is the first career honor for Alexander, a senior from Ada, Oklahoma. Batting in the No. 9 spot of the lineup, Alexander was 5-for-9 with a pair of RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases against the third-best ERA team in the league. In Saturday’s Game 2, it was Alexander’s 2-RBI double that broke a 1-1 tie and brought the game-winning runs to the plate. Alexander also worked her position in left field without an error.

Eberle takes the pitching honor for the fourth time this season and the sixth of her career. The senior graduate student from Charlotte was 2-0 against the Longhorns. She allowed just three earned runs to Texas in 11 innings with 12 strikeouts, earning both W’s in what has been her conference bookend starting routine of Games 1 and 3. The Horns’ top-3 of the lineup, each hitting .333 or better, were held to a combined 3-for-17 by Eberle. The Cowgirl’s 0.93 ERA is second in the Big 12 and 11th in the NCAA. Her 18 victories and six shutouts both lead the conference. Eberle is one of 25 finalists for USA Softball’s Player of the Year award.
