The Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship opens in Lubbock this weekend at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track & Field Complex. The three-day event is scheduled from Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15. This will be the third outdoor championship held in Lubbock, joining previous events in 2009 and 2014.
Both Texas’ programs enter the weekend as defending conference champions and will look to sweep the event for the second year in a row. The Texas women will aim for their third straight outdoor trophy while the men attempt to go back-to-back.
Both Texas programs have been ranked first in the NCAA throughout the outdoor season. Three more schools hold rankings in the top-25 with the Texas Tech women coming in at No. 6 and men taking No. 9. The Baylor men pick up the No. 10 spot while the women sit at No. 11. The Oklahoma women enter the weekend at No. 19 and the men round out the rankings at No. 23.
A slew of Big 12 athletes hold national top marks as well as spots in the world standings.
Texas Tech’s Moad Zahafi holds the No. 1 rank in the world standings for the men’s 800 meters. Oklahoma’s Vernon Turner is tied for first in the world rankings in the high jump. In the men’s shot put, Texas’ Tripp Piperi holds 19 of the 22 top marks in the NCAA and sits ninth in the world standings. Baylor’s Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi holds the top javelin throw in the NCAA and ranks at No. 15 in the world standings.
TTU’s Monae Nichols sits in second in the NCAA and world rankings in the women’s long jump. Texas’ Tyra Gittens holds the No. 3 spot in both the NCAA and the world standings. Three UT women’s relay squads have top marks in the NCAA. The 4x400-meter team, consisting of Stacey Ann Williams, Rhasidat Adeleke, Julien Alfred and Kennedy Simon hold the top mark in college track and sit fourth in the world standings. In the 4x200-meter race, Adeleke was joined by Kynnedy Flannel, Davica Patterson and Kevona Davis to take the top mark in the NCAA and the world standings. Additionally, in the 4x100-meters, Alfred, Adeleke, Davis and Flannel posted the top three marks in the NCAA and the top two marks in the world.
The meet will open Friday morning at 7 a.m. with the women’s 10,000-meter race followed by the men’s 10,000 meters at 7:45 a.m. The women’s hammer throw will kick off the field events at 11 a.m. while the men’s hammer throw picks up at 1:30 p.m. The combined events will begin at noon with the men’s decathlon’s 100-meter race.
Combined events will continue beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday while field events start at 4 p.m. and running events pick up at 5 p.m. Field finals will open Sunday competition at noon while running finals begin at 5:30 p.m. The team championship presentation is slated for 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are available online through texastech.com. Walk-up admission will also be available. The ticket office will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. General admission tickets for adults are priced at $10 while youth tickets are available for $5.
