Oklahoma 2021-22 Athlete of the Year Nominees

2021-22 Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates will be highlighted each day at 10 a.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT listed in alphabetical order by school through Friday, July 22.

The winners will be announced the week of July 25. Stay tuned to Big12Sports.com and the Conference’s social media platforms to see the rest of the nominees.

This morning's featured candidates are Oklahoma's Jocelyn Alo and Chris Gotterup.

Oklahoma Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Jocelyn Alo; Softball
R-Sr., Hauula, Hawaii

Accomplishments
  • Led Oklahoma to its second straight and sixth overall national title in 2022.
  • Claimed her second consecutive USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, becoming the fifth player to win the national player of the year award in consecutive seasons.
  • Broke the NCAA career home run record, finishing her career with 122, which is 26 more than the previous record.
  • Earned her second straight Big 12 Player of the Year honor after leading the Sooners to their 10th straight Big 12 title.
  • Became the first player in NCAA Division I history to hit 30-plus home runs (34) in a season while batting .500 or better.

Chris Gotterup; Golf

Accomplishments
  • Winner of Fred Haskins and Jack Nicklaus Awards – both given to national men’s golfer of the year.
  • Big 12 Golfer of the Year, Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, All-Big 12, Big 12 All-Tournament Team.
  • Voted Co-captain of 2022 Oklahoma team in first year on campus.
  • Unanimous No.1 college golfer in the country per Golfstat, Golfweek and Sagarin.
  • Guided Oklahoma men’s golf to its 18th conference title and No.1 overall NCAA Championship seed.
