OSU Claims 2023 NCAA Men’s Cross Country Title

Oklahoma State claimed its fifth men’s title at the 2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville, Virginia. It is the first men’s cross country title for the Cowboys since 2012. Oklahoma State now has 53 national championships in NCAA-sanctioned sports.

The Cowboys finished with a team score of 49 points as five OSU runners finished in the top 15. Denis Kipngetich crossed the finish line with a time of 28:59.7 for fourth place to lead the team. The reigning Big 12 champion, Brian Musau, was next at eighth place recording a time of 29:11.0 followed by Fouad Messaoudi at 10th (29:13.3), Victor Shitsama at 12th (29:16.1) and Alex Maier at 15th (29:20.2).

BYU and Iowa State both attained top five finishes with the Cougars coming in at third with 196 points and the Cyclones securing fifth place with 230 points. Texas concluded the Conference’s participation with 262 points and a seventh-place result.

The Oklahoma State women tallied a third-place finish with 156 points, led by All-American Billah Jepkirui (7th) with a time of 19:27.5.

The Conference garnered 11 NCAA All-Americans on the men’s side with the Cowboys leading the way with five followed by BYU, Iowa State and Texas all receiving two All-American selections. On the women’s side, the Big 12 received five selections with three Cowgirls, one Red Raider and one Cougar.
