Texas Claims Indoor Track Weekly Accolades

Texas’ Yusuf Bizimana nabbed Big 12 Indoor Track Men’s Athlete of the Week while teammates Julien Alfred and Rhasidat Adeleke were named Co-Women’s Athlete of the Week after their performances at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.

Bizimana receives his first Big 12 weekly award after setting the NCAA lead in the 800m with a time of 1.46.03. The Texas program now holds the nation’s top two times in the event. The London native sits as the No. 2 performer in the Texas record book. His time ranks No. 11 in the world rankings.

Alfred bested the NCAA 60m record she set last year for the second time this season. At the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, she shaved 0.02 seconds off her previous best, running a 7.00. The graduate student also posted a time of 7.05 in the preliminaries, which sets her as the holder of the five fastest times in NCAA history. Alfred claims her second weekly award this season and the fourth of her career.

Adeleke ran a 50.45 in the 400m to claim the fastest time for the event in the world. The Dublin native surpassed former Longhorn Courtney Okolo’s record (50.69) set in 2016 to take the top spot in Texas program history. Additionally, Adeleke’s time set Ireland’s national record. This is the first Big 12 weekly award collected by the junior.
