Texas’ Yusuf Bizimana and Texas Tech’s Alyssa Colbert claim the first Big 12 Indoor Track and Field weekly awards to open the 2024 season after posting NCAA-leading marks.
Bizimana won gold in the 1,000-meter run at the Rod McCarvy Memorial Invite with a winning time of 2:18.10. His mark replaced the NCAA’s fastest all-time mark of 2:18.26 that was set in 2016 and overthrew a 37-year-old Texas program record (2:21.19). For his performance in his first career 1,000-meter run, the advertising major was announced as a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week.
In her first meet as a Red Raider, Colbert recorded her personal best time of 7.19 in the 60-meter dash during TTU’s Stan Scott Memorial. She clocked a 7.21 mark during the qualifiers before finishing first in the final heat. Both times sit as the NCAA’s top-two best times this season while she claimed the No. 8 position within TTU’s all-time list in the 60-meter.
