Arizona, Houston and TCU Collect Weekly Big 12 Volleyball Honors for Eighth Week of Season

TCU’s Melanie Parra (offensive), Houston’s Kate Georgiades (defensive) and Arizona’s Avery Scoggins (rookie) earned weekly league volleyball accolades for their play during week eight.

Parra led the Big 12 during the week with 6.93 points per set and 5.86 kills per set. Her points per set ranked sixth nationally and helped the Horned Frogs pick up victories on the road against Texas Tech and at home over Cincinnati. The outside hitter totaled a .379 hitting percentage while picking up the 1,000th kill of her career, becoming the 14th player in TCU history to accomplish the feat. This is Parra’s fifth Offensive Player of the Week recognition in 2024, just one away from tying for the most in one season.

Georgiades posted the most digs in a single match in the Big 12 this season with 36 against Arizona, tying UH’s four-set record, also held by Georgiades. The native of College Station, Texas has tallied 21 consecutive matches with 10+ digs. This is Georgiades’ second Big 12 weekly honor this season and the third of her career.

Scoggins recorded 78 assists and 38 digs with double-doubles in each match to help Arizona split the week with a victory over Houston and a five-set contest against Colorado. The freshman’s 8.67 assists per set and her 4.22 digs per set both ranked seventh among league players during week eight while her 19 digs in each match were season highs to claim her second Rookie of the Week title this season.
