All 16 members of the Big 12 Conference will participate in the NCAA Cross Country Regionals on Friday, Nov. 15 with a berth into the NCAA Championships on the line.
UCF’s women’s team will start the day for the Conference in the South Region in Tallahassee, Florida at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Both the men’s and women’s teams of BYU, Colorado and Texas Tech will be joined by Utah’s women’s team in the Mountain Region Championship in Reno, Nevada.
Three more members will race in the South Central Region as Baylor, Houston and TCU meet in College Station, Texas.
The Conference will be represented in the West Region for the first time as Arizona and Arizona State (women’s only) will travel to Colfax, Washington.
Four programs will compete at the Midwest Regional Championship in Peoria, Illinois with Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State making the trip.
Cincinnati (Great Lakes Regional) and West Virginia (Mid-Atlantic Regional) round out the Conference’s teams in Norton, Ohio and University Park, Pennsylvania, respectively.
The top two placing teams at each of the nine regional locations will receive an automatic bid to the national championships on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Verona, Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. Another 13 at-large teams will be selected by the NCAA Division I Cross Country Subcommittee. Thirty-eight individuals will be selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. The first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships.
Four Big 12 teams enter Regionals in the top 30 of the Men’s Cross Country National Coaches Poll with a nation-leading three in the top four while four women’s programs reside in the women’s coaches’ poll.
BYU and Oklahoma State are ranked in both polls as BYU sits at No. 1 in both while OSU sits at No. 2 in the men’s poll and No. 19 in the women’s. Iowa State makes the third team in the top four of the men’s rankings followed by Texas Tech at No. 27. West Virginia (No. 5) and Utah (No. 9) complete the women’s list.
More on the selection process for teams and individuals can be found on the NCAA
selection criteria page. Fans can follow @USTFCCCA for up-to-the-minute info and the
Regional Championship Central page will have links to timing sites and will display the top-five finishing teams once results are submitted.
