Four Big 12 Records Broken as Texas Tech and BYU Lead Day One of Big 12 ITF Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas – During the opening day of the 2025 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship, four Big 12 records fell as the Texas Tech men and BYU women claimed the lead in the team standings.

After five events were completed on the men’s side, Texas Tech earned 33 points to sit atop the standings. BYU is in second place with 29 points, Kansas and Oklahoma State tied for third with 28 points and Arizona rounded out the top 5 teams with 20.5 points.

The BYU women led with 36 points with Baylor at No. 2 with 30 points. Ties among OSU and West Virginia with 22 points and Cincinnati and KU tallying 19 points round out the top 5 teams on the women’s side after six events.

BYU took the 5,000 meters on both sides as Lexy Halladay-Lowry claimed the women’s title with a time of 15:32.52, while Casey Clinger won the men’s title with a meet record mark of 13:29.61. He bested a 12-year-old record that stood at 13:41.01.

The Cowboys secured two titles as the distance medley relay team claimed their fifth-straight with the Championship’s second-fastest time of 9:30.88, along with Blair Anderson claiming the program’s first Big 12 long jump title with a leap of 7.62 meters.

West Virginia defended their DMR title as Ceili McCabe anchored the Mountaineers, crossing the finish line with a meet record time of 11:09.42. Their time squeaked by tenths of a second to break OSU’s time of 11:09.67 set in 2011.

Alexis Brown, the 2024 Big 12 outdoor long jump champion, earned another Conference title as she leaped 6.71 meters in the long jump to take the indoor honor. Brown is the first student-athlete from Baylor to win both women’s long jump titles.

TTU’s Shelby Frank secured the women’s weight throw as her second throw of 23.32 meters earned her the gold medal and set a meet record. On the men’s side, K-State’s Gary Moore Jr. claimed his first Big 12 title with a throw of 22.67 meters.
