ASU, BU, BYU and KU Players Claim Big 12 Soccer Weekly Awards

BYU’s Mattyn Summers-Oviatt and Kansas’ Livvy Moore claimed Big 12 Soccer’s week 10 offensive and defensive awards, respectively, as Baylor’s Azul Alvarez took the league’s weekly goalkeeper award and Arizona State’s Gator DeMark earned the weekly award for freshman.

Summers-Oviatt registered her first career brace in 39 minutes as BYU picked up a win against then-No. 8 Texas Tech. A header from the senior put the team up 2-1 right before the contest’s intermission. She scored again in the 57th minute to solidify the team’s second top-10 win this season. The goals were her third and fourth of the season, which helped BYU enter the race for first in the Big 12 standings. This is her first career Big 12 weekly honor.

Moore played 74 minutes as the Kansas backline as the team captured its third consecutive and ninth overall shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Iowa State. The senior also recorded her Conference-leading 11th assist in the match, which led to the game-winning goal. As the Jayhawks extended their unbeaten streak at home to 6-0, they earned three points to tie for first in the Big 12 with 16 points. Moore captured her second honor this season and is the first Jayhawk defender since 2019 to earn two defensive weekly honors in the same season.

Alvarez held in-state rival TCU scoreless as she posted a season-high seven saves as Baylor defended its home turf in front of a program-record crowd of 1,509 spectators. The goalkeeper remained steady in the net until the game’s final moments, which included last-minute attacks from the Horned Frogs in the 88th and 89th minutes. The Bears’ victory placed the program atop the Big 12 standings, tied for first place with BYU, Kansas and Texas Tech.  Alvarez claims her second honor this season, bringing her career Big 12 weekly accolades to five.

DeMark scored her first collegiate goal and claimed the game-winner as she scored for the Sun Devils in the 82nd minute against Oklahoma State. The freshman played her most 79 minutes in a Big 12 contest in Arizona State’s backline, which held OSU scoreless for the duration of the game until a penalty kick in the 90th minute. DeMark is the fourth first-year player from ASU to earn recognition this season.
