Five Big 12 student-athletes have advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tennis Singles Championship following first round competition on Wednesday. Oklahoma State’s Katarina Adamovic and Texas’ Breaunna Addison followed through on the women’s side, while Oklahoma’s Axel Alvarez, along with TCU’s Cameron Norrie and Alex Rybakov picked up victories in the men’s bracket.
Adamovic topped Vanderbilt’s Sydney Campbell in three sets by the tally of 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 and will face Ellen Perez of Georgia in second round competition. Addison dismantled Giuliana Olmos of USC, 6-4, 6-0, in straight sets and will face off against Clemson’s Joana Eidukonyle in the next round.
Alvarez picked off UGA’s Austin Smith in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-2) and will meet Uros Petronijevic of San Diego on Thursday. Norrie had no problem handling Mike Redlicki of Arkansas, 6-2, 6-2 and is set to roll against Sam Shropshire of Northwestern. Rybakov continued his impressive freshman campaign with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 straight set win over Ohio State’s Hugo Di Feo. The Horned Frog will take on Skander Mansouri of Wake Forest.
Baylor’s Julian Lenz, Oklahoma State’s Julian Cash and Texas Tech’s Felipe Soares were eliminated on the men’s side after suffering first round losses.
Advancing singles players will continue competition throughout the day on Thursday, as doubles competition will additionally kick off on Friday.
