Northern Colorado’s Andrew Alirez collected his first career Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honor after toppling the NCAA’s No. 1 ranked wrestler in the 141-pound weight division at the NWCA All-Star Classic.

The junior was a late replacement to the event and defeated Pitt’s Cole Matthews 4-2 in overtime after scoring a second period reversal and allowing just two escapes all match.

The 2022 Big 12 champion in the 141-pound weight class remains unbeaten on the season with a perfect record of 5-0.

Alirez also was named NCAA Wrestler of the Week.
