LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 2023 Big 12 Tennis Championship is set to begin Thursday, April 20 with the women’s programs competing in the first two matches. The men’s programs will start on Friday, April 21 with the Championship running through Sunday, April 23 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kansas.
The first round of the women’s bracket begins with No. 8 TCU facing off against No. 9 West Virginia as well as No. 7 Baylor taking on No. 10 Kansas State. The two contests will be the only action of the day and will start at 10 a.m. CT. On Friday, two matches are slated for Noon CT as No. 2 Oklahoma will face the winner of Baylor/Kansas State and No. 3 Iowa State will play No. 6 Kansas. An additional two matches are scheduled for the afternoon session with the top-seeded Longhorns taking on the winner of TCU/West Virginia and No. 4 Oklahoma State clashing with No. 5 Texas Tech.
The women’s semifinal matches will occur Saturday at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. CT followed by the championship match Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
The Conference features eight ITA ranked teams in the women’s bracket with four top 20 teams in No. 11 Iowa State, No. 12 Texas, No. 14 Oklahoma and No. 18 Oklahoma State. The 10 programs combine for 14 ranked singles players and 12 ranked doubles pairs.
The men’s Championship will kick off Friday with two matches both set to take place at 9 a.m. CT as No. 4 Oklahoma battles No. 5 Baylor and No. 3 Texas Tech takes on No. 6 Oklahoma State. The winner of Texas Tech and Oklahoma State will advance to the semifinals to play No. 2 TCU at 9 a.m. while the winner between the Sooners and Bears will take on top-seeded Texas at Noon. The championship match will be played at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
All six men’s programs are ranked in the ITA Poll including Texas at No. 1 and TCU at No. 3. The Conference enters the tournament with 16 ranked singles players and eight ranked doubles pairs.
Both finals will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
