Arizona State Leads Both Men’s and Women’s Standings After Day 2 of Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Arizona State sits atop both the men’s and women’s standings after the second day of the 2025 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship. The Sun Devils lead the men's competition with 663.5 points, while the women’s squad has tallied 544 points through 14 events.

Kansas' Shiyun Lai kicked off the finals portion of Wednesday’s events by securing the first individual title of the meet, winning the women’s 1-meter dive with a score of 325.10. TCU’s Anna Kwong (320.95) earned silver, and Arizona’s Brooke Earley (313.05) took bronze.

In the women’s 500 freestyle, ASU’s Alexa Reyna posted a winning time of 4:39.24, leading a 1-2 finish for the Sun Devils alongside Deniz Ertan (4:39.74). Arizona’s Malia Rausch rounded out the podium at 4:44.48.

The men’s 500 free saw ASU’s Daniel Matheson (4:14.37) claim gold, with Utah’s Jones Lambert (4:15.47) finishing second and ASU’s Jacob Pins (4:17.22) securing third.

In the women’s 200 IM, ASU’s Charli Brown (1:57.84) took gold and was joined closely behind by teammate Zoe Summar with a time of 1:57.88. Sonia Vaishnani (1:58.15) completed the Sun Devils’ podium sweep.

Cale Martter (1:42.93) led another strong performance for Arizona State by touching the wall first in the men’s 200 IM, with teammate Michael Hochwalt (1:43.29) taking silver. Utah’s Durgan McKean (1:43.33) finished in third.

In the sprint events, ASU’s Jonny Kulow captured the men’s 50 freestyle title in 18.64 seconds, achieving a Big 12 Championship record and an NCAA "A" cut time. Ilya Kharun (18.82) and Tommy Palmer (18.96) came in shortly after their teammate to conclude the men’s swimming events for the day.

The women’s 50 free saw ASU’s Caroline Bentz clock in at 21.77 to take gold. Arizona’s Lexi Duchsherer (22.01) finished second, while ASU’s Julia Ullmann (22.19) took bronze.

TCU’s David Ekdahl brought the day to an end by claiming the Big 12 title in the men’s 3-meter dive with a score of 392.10. Arizona’s Gage Dubois (388.55) secured silver, while Elias Petersen (383.30) grabbed bronze for the Utes.
