Arizona State and Houston Clinch Big 12 Tennis Weekly Honors

Arizona State’s Jelani Sarr (men’s) and Houston’s Valeriia Krokhotina (women’s) were named the Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week.

Sarr claimed two wins from the singles court against No. 8 San Diego and Princeton. The junior picked up his first win of the weekend defeating the Torreros’ Adrien Berrut 6-3, 6-4, helping the Sun Devils capture their highest ranked win since the team was reinstated in 2016. Sarr clinched the match against Princeton’s Milan Markovits, 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-3, sending Arizona State to the ITA Indoor National Championship for the second time in three seasons. With both wins over the weekend, ASU’s 8-0 start is its best since 2016. Sarr becomes the second Sun Devil to earn men’s Conference honors this season and picks up his first Big 12 weekly accolade.

On the women’s side, Krokhotina added four wins to her season total. The junior clinched both doubles points with partner Iva Sepa, against North Texas, 6-3, and UT Arlington, 6-2. Krokhotina then made quick work on the singles court with wins over the Mean Green’s Lilly Schultz (7-5, 6-1) and the Mav’s Flora Farkaslaki (6-1, 6-1) in straight sets. The Cougars’ five-match win streak is the program’s best start since 2018, with all five sweeps coming from the road. Krokhotina becomes the first Cougar to earn player of the week accolades since Houston joined the Conference in 2023-24.
