Arizona’s Jay Friend (men’s) and Texas Tech’s Kseniia Logvin (women’s) were tabbed as the Big 12 Tennis athletes of the week.
Friend finished the weekend with a 3-1 record. From the doubles court, the senior paired with Alejandro Arcilla, splitting the week against No. 25 Pepperdine, 6-3, and No. 10 San Diego, 3-6. The pair picked up a ranked doubles win over Pepperdine’s No. 51-ranked pair of Gustavo Almeida and David Fix. Friend moved to the top singles court, where he clinched the match against the Waves’ No. 88 Edward Winter, 6-4, 7-2 (9-7), picking up his first singles ranked win of the season. He then made quick work of the Torreros’ Oliver Tarvet in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, earning his third win of the week. This is Friend’s first Big 12 weekly honor this season and fourth overall.
On the women’s side, Logvin went undefeated in a doubleheader against Oregon and Sam Houston. Against the Ducks, she paired with teammate Mariia Hlahola to claim the doubles point against Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto (6-2). The junior then clinched the match for the Red Raiders, picking up her first singles win of the weekend against Oregon’s Patsy Daughters, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the afternoon slate, Logvin paired with Yekaterina Dmitrichenko to grab the doubles point in a 6-1 win over the Bearkats’ top double pair. She then made quick work of Sam Houston’s Anamaria Kurtsikashvili earning the win in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. This is the first Conference weekly accolade of Logvin’s career.
