Texas Tech Sweeps Weekly Big 12 Tennis Honors

Texas Tech’s Hailey Murphy (women’s) and Niksa Arsic (men’s) were named Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week.

Murphy finished the weekend with a 5-0 record. From the top doubles court, the senior paired with teammate Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, the No. 62-ranked duo went 3-0 against Arizona (6-1), Florida State (6-1) and UC Santa Barbara (6-2). In singles play, Murphy took down Arizona’s Martyna Ostrzygalo in a come-from-behind win at the No.1 spot, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3). She capped off her weekend with a ranked win over the Gauchos' No. 100 Ekua Youri, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2).

On the men’s side, Arsic went undefeated with a 4-0 record in a doubleheader tilt against New Mexico State and UTRGV. The junior clinched the doubles point with teammate Thiago Guglieri against New Mexico State’s top pair, 7-5. Arsic then moved to court one for the singles match, winning against the Aggies’ Roko Stipetic in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. In the afternoon match, Arsic and Guglieri would take down UTRGV’s Sam Whitehead and Will Roberts for the doubles point, 6-1. He then claimed his fourth win of the weekend against URGV’s Ivo Isqueiro, 6-3, 6-1, completing Texas Tech’s weekend sweep. Arsic leads the Red Raiders with five singles wins and six doubles.
