BYU and UH Soccer Claim Penultimate Big 12 Weekly Accolades

BYU’s Mia Goettsche (offensive) and Sydney Snow (freshman), along with Houston’s Ella Morgan (defensive) and Sierra McCluer (goalkeeper), collected Big 12 Soccer’s Week 12 awards.

Goettsche recorded her second career brace in a match that lifted BYU 3-1 over its in-state rival Utah. The sophomore scored her goals twelve minutes apart, in the 58th and 70th minutes. This is Goettsche’s third career Big 12 honor after earning the weekly freshman accolade twice last season.

Snow assisted on each of Goettsche’s goals, marking her first multi-assist performance. The freshman from Kennesaw, Georgia, has tallied three assists this season, tied for third by any BYU player this season. With a BYU victory, the Cougars are in the race to claim the Big 12 regular season title in the final week of the regular season. Snow is the second BYU player to win the league’s weekly award for first-year players this season.

Morgan tallied the game-winning goal as UH captured a 2-0 victory over then-No. 15 Kansas. The senior defender played every minute of the contest, as the Cougar backline held the Jayhawks to two shots on goal. UH claimed its first win over a ranked team since 2021 and marked the team’s first season with seven league wins since 1999. Morgan is the first UH player to capture a Big 12 Defender of the Week honor.

McCluer defended her weekly award by claiming her seventh shutout as a Cougar. Her two saves led UH to the program’s first shutout against a ranked team as then-No. 15 KU was scoreless. The Cougars enter the final week of Big 12 play with seven wins, which has helped the team qualify for its first Big 12 Tournament appearance.

The 2026 Big 12 regular season concludes on Thursday, with six teams ranked in the IWSOC/United Soccer Coaches Poll. No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 8 Baylor, No. 13 BYU, No. 18 Kansas, No. 18 Colorado remain ranked in the poll, while Houston made its first-ever poll appearance at No. 25.
