Oklahoma State, Kansas Advance to Semifinals

The 2019 Big 12 Soccer Championship quarterfinals concluded Sunday at Kansas City's Swope Soccer Village. Big 12 regular-season champion Oklahoma State advanced to the semis with a 2-1 win over No. 8-seed Oklahoma, while No. 5-seed Kansas edged No. 4-seed West Virginia, 2-0. In the second half of the day, No. 2-seed Texas Tech collected a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 7-seed Baylor. No. 6-seed TCU advanced past No. 3-seed Texas after a scoreless double overtime draw. The Horned Frogs advanced 3-1 after penalty kicks. The Championship contiunes on Friday, November 8, with the semifinals.

Top-seeded Oklahoma State rallied from a deficit and scored a pair of goals in the final 36 minutes to secure a 2-1 victory over rival No. 8-seed Oklahoma in a quarterfinal match at the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City.

Oklahoma (8-9-3) broke the scoreless tie with less than five minute remaining in the opening half as Erika Middleton booted the ball in four yards out off an OU corner.

Sixteen minutes later, Gabriella Coleman scored on a through ball from 18 yards to tie the match at 1-1. Olyvia Dowell and Charme Morgan were credited with the assist.

Jaci Jones scored the game-winning goal at the 81 minute mark after directing the ball in the net off a deflection from a corner kick.

OSU’s Dani Greenlee improved to 12-1-3 after collecting two saves, while OU’s Nikki Panas (4-6-1) also registered two saves

The Cowgirls (15-1-3) advance to their ninth Big 12 semifinal and second in three seasons. OSU will face Kansas next Friday, November 8, at 4:30 p.m.

Match 2: No. 5-seed Kansas 2, No. 4-seed West Virginia 0

No. 5-seed Kansas used two early first half goals to move past West Virginia, 2-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Championship.

The Jawyhawks (13-4-3) opened scoring at the 17-minute mark when Katie McClure knocked in a deflection from five yards, thanks to the assistance of Chais Wright. The goal was McClure’s 14th of the season. Kansas added an insurance goal 13 minutes later as Isabella Cavalcante scored her first goal of the season with help from Kailey Lane and Ceri Holland.

West Virginia (10-7-2) fired eight shots with two on-goal, but were unable to get past Kansas goalkeeper Sarah Peters. Peters improved to 13-4-3, while West Virginia’s Rylee Foster fell to 9-6-2.

Kansas advanced to the semifinals for the fourth time and the first since 2015. The semifinal matchup features the Jayhawks and Oklahoma State at 4:30 p.m. CT on Friday, November 8.
