Jumpers Garner Week Two Indoor T&F Honors

Baylor sophomore KC Lightfoot and Oklahoma junior Essence Thomas received Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors after their meet-winning performances in week two.

Lightfoot, a pole vaulter, is the men’s honoree after he cleared a national-best and Baylor record mark of 18’ 8.25” (5.70m) to win the men’s pole vault at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. His mark is a full 3.75” ahead of second place as the No. 1-ranked pole vaulter in the country. This is Lightfoot’s second weekly indoor award of his career.

Thomas collected two of Oklahoma’s seven victories at the Vanderbilt Invitational en route to claiming the women’s weekly award. She leaped 43’ 2.25” (13.16m) in the women’s triple jump, a personal record, and 20’ 9” (6.32m) in the long jump. Both marks rank in the top-six nationally. She is a first-time recipient of the Conference weekly indoor honors.
