Cowboys' Bats Lead OSU to Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship Semifinals

ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 4 seed Oklahoma State (38-19) knocked out No. 1 seed TCU (36-20) in the ninth game of the 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, 8-4. The Cowboys have now advanced to the semifinals for the third consecutive time and sixth time in the last eight seasons. 
 
In the first inning with runners on second and third, sophomore Kurtis Byrne grounded out to second base, putting the Horned Frogs on the board first. Bobby Goodloe added another run with an RBI single through the right side. 
 
Elijah Nunez plated the Horned Frogs' third run in the second inning with a single to center field pushing the TCU lead to three. 
 
In the third inning, OSU answered with four runs. Junior Griffin Doersching hit his 13th home run of the season and his second home run of the tournament, a two-run shot that traveled 450 feet to deep center field. Later, with the bases filled, Caeden Trenkle was hit by a pitch tying the game at three apiece. With one out, Chase Adkison reached on a fielder's choice, scoring yet another Cowboys run. 
 
In the bottom of the third inning, Goodloe tied the game with a double to left field, his second RBI of the contest. 
 
With bases loaded in the fifth, the Cowboys answered back when Trenkle capitalized with a two-run single. The next batter, Zach Ehrhard, singled down the first baseline scoring two more runs and stretching the Cowboys' lead to four. 
 
Senior Caleb Bolden (L, 4-2), the first pitcher out of the TCU bullpen, pitched two innings and gave up five hits, four runs and struck out two batters. 
 
Roman Phansalkar (W, 6-2) threw five innings which set a new career-high. The OSU junior also tied his new career-high in strikeouts with six while giving up two hits and one run. 
 
Oklahoma State will move on to play No. 5 Texas on Saturday, May 28 at 9 a.m. CT on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, needing two wins against the Longhorns to advance to the Championship Final on Sunday.
