BYU and K-State Share Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Honors

BYU’s Riley Chamberlain (women's) and Tayvon Kitchen (co-men’s), along with K-State’s Gary Moore Jr. (co-men’s), were named the Big 12 indoor track and field athletes of the week.

Chamberlain clocked a 4:20.61 mile to set an NCAA indoor and BYU record at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The senior broke the previous NCAA indoor record by over two seconds in her first indoor mile race of the season. Chamberlain was tabbed as the USTFCCCA D1 women’s athlete of the week, becoming the second Cougar to earn the honor this season.

In the 3000 meters, Kitchen crossed the line with a time of 7:36.23 in his first collegiate appearance in the event. The freshman set the Big 12’s best and third-fastest time in the NCCA in 2026 and eighth all-time. He is the first BYU men’s indoor track and field athlete to earn weekly league honors this season, and it’s the first Big 12 indoor track and field accolade of Kitchen’s career.

Moore broke his own school record in the weight throw, tossing the weight 23.54 meters (77’ 2.75), finishing in second place at the Tyson Invitational. The senior leads the Big 12, while ranking fifth across the NCAA with his throw. This is Moore’s first Big 12 indoor weekly award of his career.
